In this hands-on workshop at Eden Forest, we’ll explore how an ancient practice can help us work with fire in a regenerative way, turning woody material into biochar and returning carbon to the soil.

Michael Wittman of Blue Sky Biochar will guide us through the process of making biochar, from understanding the burn to preparing and using the finished material in the garden. Along the way, we’ll look at what happens beneath the surface: how biochar can support soil life, hold water and nutrients, and create lasting habitat for microorganisms.

The day will unfold around a live burn, with plenty of space for questions, observation and conversation. Whether you tend a garden, care for land, grow food, or are simply curious about the relationship between fire and soil, this is an invitation to learn by doing.
